Kane to add to City misery: Tottenham vs Manchester City Premier League Preview
Tottenham vs Manchester City. After a difficult week for Manchester City, it doesn’t get any easier as they head to Wembley to face the Premier League’s in-form team. Infogol’s Analyst uses expected goals (xG) to assess both sides and generate the best bets.
Tottenham Expected Goals (xG)
Tottenham were fortunate to beat Stoke 2-1 last weekend (xG: STO 1.5 – 1.6 TOT), but that win extended their unbeaten run in the league to 14 matches. The last team to beat them was Manchester City, and Spurs will be looking to exact revenge for their 4-1 mauling in that game.
Six straight wins have all-but cemented their place in the top four, and there is no question that they pose another real threat to a battered and bruised Manchester City. Mauricio Pochettino’s team have been the third best team in the league so far this season, having played a game less, with their process being very impressive once again this term.

Harry Kane was doing his best to claim Tottenham’s second goal against Stoke last weekend, and he has been successful! He will have another chance to add to the 25 goals he has already this weekend, and is averaging 0.8 xG per game in the league this season, so expect him to get at least one ‘big’ chance.
Manchester City Expected Goals (xG)
Wow. Who would have thought a few weeks ago that Manchester City would have the week that they have. Many wouldn’t have believed Pep Guardiola’s side would lose another game all season, never mind three in a week.
A disappointing 5-1 aggregate defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League sandwiched an even more disappointing 3-2 loss to rivals Manchester United when City had the chance to win the title. They were unfortunate to lose that game according to chances created (xG: MCI 3.0 – 1.2 MUN), but they can have no qualms about losing to Liverpool over two legs, as the Reds defended brilliantly to limit the number of chances City could create.

Though it has still been a great season for City, player confidence must be low after a brutally draining week. And it doesn’t get easier, with a trip to Wembley to play Tottenham perhaps the last game they would want. City have the capabilities to win this game for sure, but they may fall short yet again.
Tottenham will feel that this may be the best time to play City, and while they may be right, this will still be a tough test. City’s defensive frailties have been highlighted over the last week, and Tottenham can take advantage to get the win. Harry Kane looks a good bet to open the scoring.
