Corinthians vs Santos: Big Match Preview Betting Tips

Infogol’s Analyst takes a look at the big match in the Brazilian Serie A this weekend between Corinthians and Santos, using underlying stats and data to select the best bets for the game.

Corinthians have started the season well, picking up seven points from a possible nine.

They opened their campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Chapecoense, a game in which they were fortunate in the end to get a point after a poor attacking display (created just 0.3 expected goals (xG)), but have gone from strength to strength since.

Corinthians going well

They have since followed that up with successive 1-0 away wins over Vitoria and Atletico Goianiense, putting in two dominant performances to go with the results. Corinthians created a lot of chances over those two matches (3.6 xG) and conceded very few (1.4 xG), looking very solid defensively.

Being back on home soil will give them another boost and another good performance is expected in front of a raucous home crowd.

Santos have been indifferent so far this season, with one good performance and two bad ones sandwiched in between important Copa Libertadores matches.

They were beaten 3-2 by Fluminense in their opening game, but that was their best performance and they were very unlucky to come away empty handed, creating 2.5 xG compared to Fluminense’s 1.7 xG.

Struggling Santos

Coritiba are the only team that they have beaten so far this season and there was a huge slice of luck in the 1-0 victory, with Santos creating very little and Coritiba missing a late penalty. They followed that win with defeat, losing at home to Cruzeiro.  That late goal in their 1-0 loss to Cruzeiro means Santos sit 15th in the table after three matches and they do seem to have a defensive frailty, conceding a lot of high-quality chances.

With one team seemingly improving and the other struggling, a win for Corinthians is expected as they take advantage of Santos’ defensive weakness. Jo has scored two of Corinthians three goals so far this season and he should have a say in this match.
