West Ham vs Tottenham Match Preview
West Ham host Spurs in the opening game of the weekend, and will be looking for a similar result to last season, when they won 1-0. Infogol’s Analyst will aim to use unique stats and data points to select the best bets for the match.
West Ham have taken a while to get going this season, losing their first three games and conceding 10 goals in the process. With the pressure mounting on Slavan Bilic, they registered their first win of the season at home to Huddersfield before gaining a point at West Brom last time out.
They have looked much more effective in attack due to the return of Andy Carroll, and have created good scoring opportunities in most of their matches so far this season. Their problem continues to be defensively, where they still look vulnerable, conceding 8xG so far this season.
If they are to have any chance in this match then they need to concentrate on conceding few chances to their opponents, or limit them to low-probability efforts. If they defend like they did against Manchester United (4-0) or Newcastle (3-0), then Spurs will have a field day.
Tottenham were once again frustrated at Wembley, this time drawing 0-0 with Swansea. They were once again unlucky though, conceding very few chances and never looking like losing the game, but failing to take the good chances that came their way.
Their process so far this season has been nearly as good as last season, generating 9.7 xG and conceding 4.3 xG in their five matches so far. They have scored just seven so have been unfortunate not to have hit the net more than they have.
If they maintain this process they will be up near the top come the end of the season. They keep creating chances, and with a player of Harry Kane’s calibre getting on the end of them, he will begin to convert more than he misses.
Though West Ham have improved since the start of the season, they are still a work in progress. Tottenham haven’t been performing badly in matches, and have been unlucky not to have collected more points. Expect Spurs to get the win in this match, and Kane to be among the scorers.
