Valencia vs Real Madrid Match Preview
Valencia take on Real Madrid in La Liga. Both sides have been inconsistent of late, and with five points separating the teams, this is a big match in the race for a top four finish. Infogol’s Analyst previews the game, producing the best bets using expected goals.
Valencia have had a great season so far, sitting third in the table after 20 matches. They have been inconsistent of late though, losing three of their last five in the league. They squeezed through their Copa del Rey tie with Alaves on penalties in midweek, and have Goncalo Guedes back fit for this game.
Guedes is a key player for Valencia
They have undoubtedly impressed so far this season, but have been fortunate to have won as many points as they have. They have generated just 36.3 xG but have hit the net 41 times, and have conceded 33.3 xG while letting in only 21 - so have been lucky on both fronts.
Taking into account both the actual and expected goals they have accumulated so far this season, it’s fair to say that the majority of their matches are entertaining and goal-laden. More of the same can be expected in this crunch match.
Real Madrid have had another tough week, suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Leganes in midweek that saw them get dumped out of the Copa del Rey – a result which has put Zinedine Zindane’s job under further pressure.
Zidane feeling the heat
All had looked to be on the up after a 7-1 thumping of Deportivo last weekend, a game in which the BBC trio (Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo) played together for the first time in 273 days. This was a much needed boost at the time, but has been diminished somewhat by the midweek defeat – though several first teamers were absent against Leganes.
Madrid’s process this season has been very impressive though, and in contrast to Valencia they have been unfortunate. Real have scored 39 goals in 19 games, but from the chances they created they are expected to have scored closer to 53 - a tally bettered only by Barcelona.
This will be an entertaining game for sure, between two teams who only know how to attack.
Over 3.5 goals @ 9/10
Both sides generate a host of chances in matches, and have an array of attacking talent that will take to the pitch. Infogol forecasts 3.9 xG in this match, so over 3.5 goals is the selected bet.
Real Madrid win @ 8/13
Though they have had a tough week, Real Madrid will field their strongest team and are expected to bounce back from their Copa del Rey disappointment.
