Goals expected at Wembley: Tottenham vs Juventus
Tottenham take on Juventus in the Champion’s League second leg, with Spurs having a slim advantage thanks to two away goals. Infogol’s Analyst previews the game, using expected goals to generate the best bets.
Tottenham Expected Goals (xG)
Tottenham will have been happy with the first leg result, especially after going 2-0 down before the 10th minute. They did ride their luck though (xG: JUV 2.6 – 1.4 TOT), as if Gonzalo Higuain had scored his second penalty with the score at 2-1, it may have been a different outcome.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team dominated the game after going 2-0 down and, most impressively, they scored two goals past a Juventus team that had conceded just one goal in the 16 games prior to the first leg.
Harry Kane continued his fine season by netting his seventh goal in seven Champions League games this season. He is running hot in this competition so far, though, he is only expected to have scored 3 goals from the chances he has had. If this hot streak continues, he is likely to score again on Wednesday night.
Juventus Expected Goals (xG)
Juventus surprised many with their negative approach after going 2-0 up so early in the game. They sat back and allowed Spurs to play themselves into the game when they should have gone for the kill and, along with Higuaín’s penalty miss, this may come back to bite them.
Since the first leg, Juventus have won 1-0 in all three of their games, a score line that would be enough to qualify them here and one which is not beyond the realms of possibility given the Italian sides strengths.
They have some of their key players back fit for this game, with Paulo Dybala and Blaise Matuidi returning which will make Juve stronger. They have the potential to cause Spurs problems but, as they showed in the first leg, are also vulnerable to Spurs’ attacking prowess.
Both teams showcased in the first leg that they were capable of cutting through each other and creating plenty of chances. A similar game is expected here, with plenty of goals anticipated at Wembley. Harry Kane will be relishing another opportunity to play on the big stage, and looks a good price to hit the net first in this game.
